Terms of Use

FiFi Recipes for iPhone and iPad (“the app”). Effective and last updated 11 October 2026.

Who we are

The app shows the recipe archive of Dr. Fatma Alkawokgy (1943–2026) published at fifi.cooking. It is free and non-commercial, kept by her family and maintained by her son, Ahmed Abdel Aal (“we”). By installing or using the app you agree to these terms. They are the app's end user licence agreement and work together with the fifi.cooking terms of use, which set out the rights in each recipe collection; if they conflict about the app, these terms apply.

Licence

We give you a free, personal, non-exclusive, revocable licence to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, under the rules of the App Store. The app's source code is published under the MIT licence in its repository; that licence governs copying the code. Recipes, pictures, translations and videos in the app keep the rights described in the fifi.cooking terms: the family recipes are free to reuse, while recipes credited to other books, channels and websites belong to their owners.

Acceptable use

Do not use the app to break the law, reverse engineer it to attack the services it uses, or overload those services.

Cooking is at your own risk

Recipes are a family and cultural record, not tested or certified recipes. Allergen, dietary (including halal) and nutrition labels are automated screens, not guarantees or advice. Read the disclaimer. You are responsible for food safety, checking product labels and supervising children.

Third parties

The app loads data from fifi.cooking and videos from YouTube under YouTube's terms. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party services or content.

Apple

These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Your licence to the app is a limited, non-transferable licence to use it on Apple-branded products you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any (the app is free); to the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to any legal or regulatory requirement, consumer protection or privacy claims, and claims that the app infringes a third party's intellectual property, which we will investigate, defend, settle and discharge. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You must comply with applicable third-party terms when using the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and on your acceptance Apple has the right to enforce them against you. Questions, complaints or claims about the app go to us at the contact below.

No warranty

The app is provided free, “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, availability and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows.

Limitation of liability and release

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or loss of data or profits, arising from the app or any recipe, label, estimate or video in it; our total liability is limited to CAD $100; and you release us and the contributors from claims arising from your use of the app, including from food prepared from its recipes. If you are a California resident, you waive California Civil Code section 1542, which says: “A general release does not extend to claims that the creditor or releasing party does not know or suspect to exist in his or her favor at the time of executing the release and that, if known by him or her, would have materially affected his or her settlement with the debtor or released party.”

Rights the law does not let us take away

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or affects your rights as a consumer under the mandatory law of the place you live, including the Quebec Consumer Protection Act, other Canadian provincial law, the law of the European Union and its member states, the United Kingdom, Australia and U.S. states. Where such law applies, the limits above apply only as far as it allows.

Ending these terms

You can stop at any time by deleting the app. We may change or withdraw the app.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. The courts of Ontario have jurisdiction, but consumers may also bring proceedings where they live and keep the protection of that place's mandatory law. The UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.

Changes and contact

We post changes here with a new date. If part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Copyright and illegal-content notices: see fifi.cooking/copyright.html. Contact: ios@fifi.cooking.
